Iowa standout Clayborn a productive playmaker at end

ChicagoBears.com is profiling the top 30 prospects in the NFL Draft, according to NFL Network expert Mike Mayock. No. 22 is Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn.
Iowa’s Adrian Clayborn is a strong and instinctual defensive end who recorded 27 tackles-for-loss and 15 sacks over his final two seasons with the Hawkeyes.
According to his profile on NFL.com, the 6-3, 281-pounder “has the ability to be a very good starting defensive end in a 3-4 or 4-3 front and can play some defensive tackle in passing situations.”
It also states that he’s a “smart, instinctual player, especially against the run” who “doesn’t stay blocked long and can stop the running game right at him.” He “uses his hands and power to take a direct route to the quarterback.” However, he “doesn’t possess elite quickness or top-end speed which limits his big play ability rushing the passer, away from him in the running game, and in space.”
Clayborn emerged as a playmaker as a junior in 2009 when he recorded 70 tackles, 20 tackles-for-loss and 11½ sacks. His production declined as a senior when he registered 52 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss and 3½ sacks while starting all 13 games for the second straight year.
Clayborn suffers from Erb’s Palsy in his right shoulder, but insists that it hasn’t hindered his performance on the football field.
“It’s something that happened at birth; never damage in my right shoulder,” Clayborn said. “It’s not a big deal. I’ve been playing with it since I was in seventh grade.”
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock calls Clayborn an interesting guy, writing: “After his junior year, most would have called him a top-10 to top-15 pick. All that stuff about Erb’s Palsy and will it affect his draft stock, I say watch the tape. He’s a football player.
“[Wisconsin tackle] Gabe Carimi got the better of him this year, but I thought he dominated Carimi a year ago. If he goes in the low 20s, what a great football player you’re going to get.”
Pro Football Weekly labels Clayborn “a stout, powerful, competitive, energetic base end and vocal leader capable of crushing the corner.”
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. predicts that Clayborn will be selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 27th pick in the first round of the draft. Kiper writes that “Clayborn has good size, a reputation for relentlessness and the respect of his peers—Carimi called him the best defensive end he’d faced at the college level.”

Notre Dame star Michael Floyd is suspended

Notre Dame suspended star wide receiver Michael Floyd indefinitely Monday, a day after he was cited for drunk driving and authorities said his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Coach Brian Kelly said the suspension will not be lifted until Floyd changes his behavior and the legal and university discipline procedures run their course.
It was Floyd’s third run-in with the law over alcohol since 2009.
Floyd was driving a white Cadillac at 3:18 a.m. Sunday when he ran a stop sign about a block from the school’s main entrance, according to a probable cause affidavit from St. Joseph County deputy prosecutor Chris Daniels filed Monday.
Floyd failed three sobriety tests that consisted of standing on one leg, walking and turning around, and a finger count, Daniels said. The breathalyzer test showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19, well above Indiana’s legal limit for driving of 0.08.

Mets release pitcher Perez
The New York Mets released pitcher Oliver Perez, two days after the left-hander gave up consecutive home runs to minor leaguers.
The Mets chose to absorb the $12 million remaining on Perez’s $36-million, three-year contract rather than keep a pitcher, who has been ineffective in trying to make the team as a reliever.
Perez’s release came three days after the team cut second baseman Luis Castillo, who was signed Monday by the rival Philadelphia Phillies.
2/3 innings.
The PGA Tour is considering a change to the end of its season in which players who don’t make the FedEx Cup playoffs would compete for their cards in a series of tournaments against top Nationwide Tour players.
PGA Tour spokesman Ty Votaw confirmed the policy board has given preliminary approval to the concept, although it is in the early stages of discussion. The tour began informing players by memo late Monday afternoon.
Another change being contemplated is Q-school at the end of the year providing access only to the Nationwide Tour.
A judge in Nevada says a lawsuit filed by Manny Pacquiao against longtime boxing rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. over allegations that Pacquiao used performance-enhancing drugs can continue.
U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks said in a court order filed Monday that he would not dismiss the case as requested by Mayweather and others named in the defamation lawsuit filed by Pacquiao in 2009.
Figure skating’s governing body hopes to select a new site for its world championships by the end of the week because Japan is unable to be this year’s host. The championships were to have begun Monday in Tokyo but had been postponed because of the earthquake and tsunami.
The Azusa Pacific women’s basketball team reached the championship game of the NAIA tournament with a 58-46 victory over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in Jackson, Tenn. 2011 NBA Draft, Pac-10 Prospects: Chad Ford & Bill Simmons Discuss Derrick Williams, Isaiah Thomas

On Monday’s B.S. Report, ESPN personality Bill Simmons interviewed the NBA Draft Insider Chad Ford to get himself prepared for March Madness. On the way through the popular names like Jared Sullinger, Harrison Barnes, Kemba Walker, Jimmer Fredette and Perry Jones, they managed to forage their way through two prominent Pac-10 names and offer their insights (well, mostly Ford; Simmons is just along for the ride here).
Derrick Williams, Arizona Wildcats. Ford really likes the way Williams plays, and he especially likes how efficient a shooter he is. Williams is currently shooting an incredible 67% eFG and 70% true shooting percentage, both ranking him top five nationally, and his three point percentage is an incredible 60% (on only 58 shots, but nevertheless). Williams is considered by most NBA scouts to be the guy who’s undoubtedly a lottery pick, making him the guy who stands out the most in a relatively lackluster looking class (FYI, Tom Ziller for SB Nation agrees with that assessment).. Ford thinks the biggest issue is Williams transitioning from the four spot that he plays in college to the three in the NBA, which is always a difficult shift to make.
After the jump, see what Simmons and Ford have to say about a potential Pac-10 prospect who might have made a name for himself in the conference tournament.
Isaiah Thomas, Washington Huskies: Simmons and Ford both appreciated the way he played in the Pac-10 tournament to win the whole thing. However, Thomas’s biggest issue is height (he’s probably three inches shorter than Kemba, who is himself a borderline draft prospect), and he really hasn’t generated much buzz yet from scouts because he doesn’t seem to have the body yet to succeed at the next level.  It’s very similar to Nate Robinson, who was himself overlooked until his senior season at UW (Thomas is a junior). Ford believes he’s been playing his best ball as of late since Abdul Gaddy went down and could very well give scouts a reason to reevaluate what they’ve seen of the Husky point guard.

A lock as the NFL, as the Tampa Bay play

The iron gates of Buc Place are strong and concern. Add a bit of barbed wire in bars and through the doors of Alcatraz was over. Folsom doors, perhaps.
By default, built to keep things in check. Wackadoodle fans, for one thing. Chuckleheaded columnists from time to time. In addition, previous coaches. Once closed, these doors can carry a lot of things remotely.
驴Qui茅n know?
Maybe even success.
For Tampa Bay, and to move forward, it is the biggest risk of a deadlock in the NFL. Most Blathers Roger Goodell, and most of the complaining DeMaurice Smith, the Bucs would be worse. Blocking of the season was not all good for any team, but could the Bucs like all other damages.
Let’s face it: The working group talks on the NFL greedy people fight over money. Who cares? Basically, it will not interfere if the dealer makes $ 6,000,000 $ 4,000,000 instead of next year. And even if you prefer Goodell schedule for 18 games, you can live with 16.
to inquire into the side, whether it’s time set a cap on ticket prices or start to the prohibition of 50 percent of the time in the stadium with public funds lift, most of us do not care. I hate that we did not care.
On the other hand, if the money to stand around in the way of starting to talk about the progress of the team, it’s time to respect.
Start with this: The Bucs have offseason. You need it because they are very young. You need it because their defense has the same kind of infusion of talent from the offense a year ago. You need it because they are a team on the rise. You need it because it did not improve. The need for cohesion and chemistry, that offer this time.
Above all, he was sentenced needs because last season of the mind.
Do you know if the Bucs to a very bad to very good to know? It was last season, in these months of silence, in which nobody pays much attention. Josh Freeman was when he was a quarterback, and if Raheem Morris became head coach at Mark Dominik, General Manager.
To the overview in the autumn, but spring and summer fashion of the football team of the future. This time last year, Freeman spent his days in a movie theater, learning to be a quarterback. This time last year, have examined the Bucs with Mike Williams and Blount Legarreta.
Given the season, one could argue that the Bucs the best season of all-NFL team have followed last year. Of course, this was particularly notable in comparison with the train accident in the last season, appears Jeff Jagodzinski and dancers of Byron Leftwich, but he was last season when things have changed. The Bucs sent the ship changed course and into a learning organization, effectively, think again.
Currently, the Bucs could have a bit more of the same.
If the NFL history teaches us anything, it’s better than a year not to continue to the next. But to hope for the lock, the more is that the status quo. Good teams will always be a good team because they are often the best organizations, and the best quarterback and the best defense. Conversely, bad teams are still underway to find its way out of the way, no matter how long barrier.
So what happens on computers that are on the way? We’ll see. But something I’ve never seen the end of 1987 to destroy the chemistry of a team.
How close are the Bucs? While you are playing the Packers, the Steelers in the Super Bowl last month was to simply ask how to play these teams and the Bucs were.
Two years, I thought. If nothing in the way, but the teams on their schedule, I think it will be a playoff team, but I think it lacks the maturity to make a real run at the Super Bowl. In addition, progress has been almost two years in the past year and it is difficult to ask again. Give the office two years to earn the right to defense and the offense let the team grow and be a threat.
However, the Bucs offseason. You need to find a defensive end (or both) and a linebacker (or two). Davin Joseph autograph need a contract.
Gerald McCoy has to become more and Blount, a full backup and Williams will strengthen as more polite and Arrelious Benn to their capacity. Freeman must convince people that what he is a quarter-five years not only one of the 10th
Just a thought, but it can be useful when the theater was open and the balloons were inflated.
Meanwhile, positions and poses Goodell Smith, and soon the doors begin to close.
With luck, they will close on someone’s feet.

QB Mallett: ‘I’m a great person’

Former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett said Saturday he laughs at the myriad unsubstantiated reports linking him to drug use, even addiction.
He already has an arrest on his record for public intoxication, which makes the spotlight on his personal life that much more intense. What does Mallett want NFL teams to know about his character, what type of person he is?
“I would say I’m a great person,” the 6-foot-6, 238-pound quarterback said Saturday as he faced the enormous NFL Scouting Combine media gauntlet at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. “But I would also tell them, ask the coaches and ask the people that I’ve worked with before.
“If you want to know about my character, ask them and they can tell you.”
On the field, Mallett has quality numbers: The Michigan transfer in 2010 set or tied 43 Arkansas school or championship records, and his career average of 29.6 yards per touchdown pass is the highest in Southeastern Conference history.
Mallett put up 7,493 career passing yards, 7,141 career total offensive yards and 62 passing touchdowns, the highest totals by active SEC players. In 2010, he completed an Arkansas single-season record 266 passes on a school-record 411 attempts for 3,869 yards and 32 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.http://beckmann.blog.co.uk/
But the off-field baggage is getting heavier by the day.
This week, former Rams and Panthers personnel department executive Tony Softli, now an analyst for 101 ESPN in St. Louis, had this to say about Mallett.
“Heavy rumors of drug use and possible addiction kept (Mallett) from coming out for the 2010 draft,” Softli wrote. And then some.
“His inconsistency in leading his team to victory or making poor decisions at the most vital time of the game really sends up a red flag,” Softli continued. “Character and drug use issues are starting to rear their ugly head.
“A lot of people are comparing Mallett to Ryan Leaf. I think Ryan was a better football player, with a cannon for an arm but the immaturity was just too much to overcome. A hair folical test might tell all 32 teams who this person really is.”
Mallett offered this blunt response when asked whether he is upset by the rumors that are dogging him.
“I’ll tell you – when I saw that stuff, I laughed about it,” Mallett said, smiling. “You know … you can’t control it, though.”

Angry Birds Coming to Windows Phone 7 and 3D Mobile Devices

Pocket-lint caught up with Rovio Mobile in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress and learned that the company is developing some new versions   Cheap NFL Jerseys of its best-selling game. Angry Birds will be coming soon to Windows Phone 7, which may end up helping Microsoft move more units. Angry Birds will also be revamped for 3D handheld devices. So what’s so important about Angry Birds? The game generates commerce and can set an example for other potential Windows Phone 7 developers. Angry Birds consistently tops the charts of PAID apps and generates a fortune with its in-app purchases on iOS devices. It’s difficult enough for app developers to get people to download and try their apps, much less pay for them. If Rovio Mobile can demonstrate that it’s possible to earn a decent amount of cash on Windows Phone 7 devices, others will be attracted to the platform.
Of course there’s a risk to bringing Angry Birds to Windows Phone 7. What happens if there’s barely a blip of Angry Birds sales on Microsoft’s latest mobile platform? What if we don’t see a press release about the masses flocking to the game within a few days or weeks after the game launches? It will probably be a signal to other developers to concentrate their efforts for the time being.
